Founded in 1895 and established as a neighbourhood in 1914, Crescent Heights is a diverse, vibrant community in the heart of Calgary located just north of the Bow River. It is recognized as one of the oldest communities in the city. Since 1974, the Crescent Heights Community Association has pushed for opportunities to arrange community recreational projects that physically improve the district. They work closely with residents, members, and stakeholders to improve the quality of life for Crescent Heights residents by enhancing community enjoyment, safety, connection and belonging.
Crescent Heights is home to the largest number of heritage homes and trees – nearing 100 years in age. In response to the ongoing redevelopment in the community, with the loss of both older homes and trees, the Crescent Heights Community Association worked closely with the City of Calgary to design Heritage Guidelines that would help prevent further loss and engage residents in the understanding of the community’s history.
