DIALOG’s Mona Lemoine, Associate and Senior Sustainability Consultant, is heading to St. Andrews, NB to host the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) Congress on Architecture on Monday, October 7, 2024. This year’s Congress on Architecture will address housing, affordability, and the climate crisis.
The national housing crisis and climate crisis are inextricably connected and pose one of Canada’s greatest social and economic challenges. The Canadian government has declared a housing crisis due to soaring housing costs leading to unprecedented affordability challenges, increasing rates of inadequate housing, and a growing number of unhoused people. At the same time, climate change in Canada is leading to more extreme weather events with billions of dollars in damages each year, impairing prosperity and disproportionately impacting vulnerable and marginalized populations.
The Congress will explore the intersection of housing, affordability, and climate change and examine how Canada can move toward holistic solutions to this interconnected crisis. Panelists include Jorge Garza, Associate Director, Communities Building Belonging; Simoogit Saa Bax Patrick R. Stewart, PhD, Architect AIBC, NCARB, FRAIC; Deana Grinnell, Executive Vice President, Real Estate Canada Lands Company; Daniel Pearl, Owner, l’OEUF architects; and Betsy Agar, Director, Pembina Institute’s buildings program.
