On January 29, DIALOG announced Hossein Yarahmadi, a Master of Science candidate at the University of Alberta, as this year’s recipient of the Gordon F. Anderson Graduate Scholarship in Structural Engineering.
Established in 2001 in partnership with the University of Alberta, the scholarship encourages students to pursue advanced study in structural engineering. Valued at $5,000, it is awarded annually to a student entering the first year of a graduate program and includes a two-week internship with DIALOG’s Edmonton structural engineering team.

Hossein Yarahmadi, MSc. Candidate at the University of Alberta.
After earning his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in Iran, Hossein continued his academic journey at the University of Alberta, where he is completing his Master’s in Structural Engineering. His research focuses on precast and prestressed sandwich wall panels, addressing critical gaps through close collaboration with industry partners. A central goal of his work is to develop practical, verifiable design methods that engineers can confidently apply in practice – approaches that help bridge building code gaps without relying on complex computational models.
“Gordon F. Anderson’s legacy demonstrates what I aspire to become: an engineer who contributes through innovation while helping others grow,” says Hossein. “Looking ahead, I want to be the kind of researcher who thinks outside the box and offers new solutions to today’s engineering challenges – someone who collaborates, learns from others, and inspires the next generation.”
After completing his master’s degree, Hossein plans to pursue a PhD while remaining closely connected to industry. He hopes to work within organizations where research, innovation, and community service go hand in hand.
The scholarship was presented during an evening ceremony at DIALOG’s Edmonton studio on January 29. The event brought together University of Alberta faculty members and community leaders to celebrate this year’s recipient, learn more about the scholarship, and connect with the structural engineering team.
