DIALOG Chair Antonio Gómez-Palacio Presents ‘Community Wellbeing in Design’ to the City of Toronto

January 17, 2025

On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, DIALOG Chair Antonio Gómez-Palacio will deliver a presentation titled ‘Community Wellbeing in Design’ to the City of Toronto, and will highlight the Community Wellbeing Framework, developed by the Conference Board of Canada and DIALOG, as it applies to the City of Toronto’s current city building context and evolving priorities.

The City of Toronto’s Urban Design department will gain insight of the Community Wellbeing Framework and will delve into its broad applications and design principles that support the development of complete, resilient, and inclusive communities. The session will explore how the elements of the Framework may inform the City’s day-to-day undertakings and multiple projects underway.

About Community Wellbeing in Design

The Community Wellbeing Framework is an evidenced-based methodology to design for community wellbeing. It provides easy-to-use approaches to examine design features that contribute to community wellbeing and facilitates decision-making among users and stakeholders of a place to enable it to contribute, and continue to contribute throughout its life, to the wellbeing of the community.

The Framework resulted from a multi-year collaborative research initiative between The Conference Board of Canada and DIALOG and was peer reviewed by design professionals, municipal officials, advocacy groups, and researchers, including from Cornell University, Université Laval, and the Public Health Agency of Canada. Since its publication, it has been employed to inform the planning and design of a wide range of communities, buildings, parks, public spaces, streetscape – from coast to coast and internationally.

The Framework is available to download at The Conference Board of Canada’s website here, with additional resources available here.
