DIALOG Chair Antonio Gómez-Palacio will speak in a virtual panel on cultural heritage and sustainable development, as part of the World Economic Forum Davos Baukultur Talks, on Monday, December 16, 2024.
The Baukultur Talks series provides members of the Davos Baukultur Alliance an opportunity to meet virtually and share examples of Baukultur innovative practices being recognized across different sectors and geographies. Each talk addresses a theme, inspiring members to accelerate and scale implementation of high-quality culture building.
Baukultur Talks: ‘Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Development’
Cultural heritage is an integral part of Baukultur, but climate change is placing new demands on it. Heritage sites of all kinds – both formal and undesignated- can play a key part in promoting sustainable development while preserving their important role in our living environments and communities such as strengthening a sense of place, local economies, and functional needs. This is a challenge, but also offers new opportunities.
In this third talk of the Baukultur Talks series, featured speaker Aruna Francesca Maria, Director-General, ICCROM, alongside panellists Antonio Gómez-Palacio, Chair, DIALOG, and Regina Gonthier, President, International Union of Architects, will address the questions of how cultural heritage can be made fit for a more sustainable future, which challenges need to be tackled, and what solutions and practices need to be scaled.
The Davos Baukultur Alliance
The Davos Baukultur Alliance is a global initiative that unites individuals around a shared set of principles to improve the quality and culture of our living environments. Baukultur, which means “Building Culture”, sees living environments as a coherent whole, from individual buildings to large-scale infrastructures. Its three main areas of focus include sustainability and circularity, resilience and climate adaptation, and affordability and social value creation.
As a member of this Alliance, DIALOG collaborates with global leaders to develop practical tools, case studies, and policies that promote high-quality Baukultur and advance quality planning, construction, and management of more sustainable communities, both locally and nationally.
