Peel Regional Police have officially commenced the first stage of the new 23 Division building in Mississauga, ON, this past Monday, June 24, set to be completed by the end of 2026.
With DIALOG providing architecture, interior design, mechanical, electrical and structural engineering, sustainable design, and landscape architecture services, the new building will accommodate more officers than any existing Peel Regional Police divisions across the region.
Guided by its motto, “A Safer Community Together, the 23 Division building will serve as a welcoming and inclusive public face, emphasizing flexibility to meet the evolving needs of the Peel Regional Police. It will prioritize environmental sustainability and climate resilience, aiming to be an exemplary workplace that reflects best practices, enabling effective and collaborative work.
Peel Region is amongst the fastest growing, most diverse communities in Canada, and a larger population means greater demands to maintain public safety with more needs from the community.
DIALOG set out to design a building that would support the emotional wellbeing of its inhabitants and the feeling of connectedness, offering opportunities for decompression. The design aims to provide an environment that supports the fidelity of police work while providing a safe and healthy workplace – emphasizing great ventilation, access to natural light, dynamic workspaces, and connection to nature.
The building comprises three core functions: public-facing engagement, work spaces, and a cell block. The three-wing design accommodates these functions, with the public-facing wing presenting a civic and welcoming face, the business end being hidden from public view, and the cell block facing an outdoor area. The design includes a central vertical garden and stair as a visual orientation point and resource for all occupants, along with outdoor social spaces facing the ravine.
The new Division is also designed using sustainable materials, consistent with the Region of Peel’s net zero carbon commitment.
