Centennial College A-Building Expansion, designed by DIALOG in collaboration with Smoke Architecture, was announced as Jury Winner of the Architizer A+Awards in the Educational Interiors Category.
The Educational Interiors award represents meaningful design worldwide and showcases the positive impact the Centennial College A-Building Expansion has on everyday life. In its 12th year, the Architizer A+Awards is the largest awards program focused on promoting and celebrating the world’s best architecture.
Selected from an esteemed panel of judges, Centennial College A-Building Expansion was one of five worldwide to be selected in this award category, demonstrating the appreciation for the meaningful design to respond to society’s changing needs.
The Centennial College A-Building Expansion is a transformative addition to the college’s campus that seamlessly blends Indigenous perspectives, sustainability, and innovative architecture. The project is Canada’s first LEED Gold, zero carbon, WELL certified, mass timber, higher-education facility. The building stands as a testament to the profound commitment to truth and reconciliation.
The building was designed as an opportunity to demonstrate how higher education facilities can not only provide state-of-the-art educational and cultural spaces, but do so in a way that significantly reduces embodied carbon emissions. The building pays homage to Indigenous traditions and nature-inspired sustainability, harmonizing Indigenous wisdom and Western perspectives.
