Hosted by the city’s thriving design community, the Design Vancouver Festival is a citywide community-driven festival that features open studios, walking tours, exhibitions, lectures, social networking events, and more, from September 19 to 29, 2024. The festival brings together designers of all disciplines, design enthusiasts, friends and patrons of the design community, with a goal to cultivate the public’s knowledge and appreciation of design and create a supportive community.
DIALOG’s Edward Park, Intern Architect; Mona Lemoine, Associate and Senior Sustainability Consultant; Paul Giles, Associate and Project Manager; and our Vancouver Studio will participate in events throughout the week.

‘Design Vancouver Festival Opening Night – Pecha Kucha’ with Paul Giles
Celebrating Creatives in 20 slides x 20 seconds.
The festival will kick off this year with PechaKucha Night on Thursday, September 19. DIALOG’s Paul Giles and fellow design experts will participate in PechaKucha Night, a presentation where speakers show only 20 images for 20 seconds each – a 6-minute and 40-second dose of ideas before the next presenter is up. It is a fun and informal 120 minutes of culture, ideas, creativity, passion and opinions.

DIALOG Vancouver Open Studio

The DIALOG Vancouver studio is opening its doors to the public, offering a glimpse into its multidisciplinary design space and processes. This is an opportunity for guests to engage directly with the minds behind some of the city’s most compelling designs.
The event is free and open to the public.
‘Second Life for CLT’ with Edward Park

Join DIALOG’s Edward Park and Concept Lab’s Brandon Sullivan, Manager, as they explore innovative uses of cross-laminated timber in the built environment, featuring robotics and computational design to highlight the material’s second life and its role in placemaking.
There will be a Robotics Demonstration showcasing the capabilities of the 6-axis robot arm, as well as a Q+A and a tour.
Note: Participants sensitive to sawdust are advised to bring a dust mask for the demonstration portion.
‘Future of Sustainability’ with Mona Lemoine

The Design Vancouver Forum brings together inspiring designers who are pushing boundaries by designing timber for sustainability at individual and systemic scales: shifting mindsets and behaviours, devising zero-waste materials flows and improving our built environment.
DIALOG’s Mona Lemoine and fellow design experts will explore the diverse ways that they approach the use of the material, their methods of build and construction, and the environmental and social impact possible with the adoption of regenerative design practices.
