The Power of Place

Transit systems are exploring ways to strengthen communities by engaging and increasing a diverse ridership. Place branding can play a role in achieving these goals without major changes to infrastructure and service offerings. Places have the power to influence our emotions, feelings, as well as our actions. This session dives in to discuss place branding measures such as public art as well as the role place branding plays in creating rider comfort, connecting riders to surrounding communities, and attracting more diverse riders.

Speakers:

  •  Vedran Dzebic, Entro
  •  Katherine Dirga, Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority
  •  Fiona Lyon, TriMet

About Rail~Volution

The 2022 Rail~Volution conference will be back in-person with a full program of learning and networking opportunities from October 30 to November 2, in downtown Miami, Florida. This event will allow you to connect with practitioners, leaders, and advocates from the United States, Canada, and beyond.

At Rail~Volution, they look at the whole community built around transit and connected mobility options. The conference shares how peers are getting projects done – from transit to housing – with an eye to the implications for health, safety, equity, sustainability, access to opportunity, and overall quality of life.

The program includes more than 60 sessions, 25 mobile workshops, 3 plenaries, and countless conversations. The range of topics include policy, planning, community engagement, design, engineering, financing, implementation, and operations.
