Forecast for Hotter Cities

With extreme heat the leading cause of weather-related deaths, rising temperatures are a new public health crisis, effecting especially the most vulnerable groups in society. How can we ensure the long-term comfort and livability of communities — and safeguard against related climate disasters such as wildfires and droughts?

In this panel, speakers Dorsa Jalalian; Marta Segura, Chief Heat Officer and Director, City of Los Angeles; and Rasmus Astrup, Partner and Design Principal, SLA, are working at the forefront of urban heat mitigation in planning, design, and landscape. They will share their insights and experiences from their urban cool-down efforts and what they are planning for next.

About Human/Nature

At Human/Nature, architects, landscape architects, urbanists, designers, and other innovators will find insight into effective ways for integrating climate-conscious design thinking into their own practices. Students and educators will learn how their work could be aligned to mitigation, adaptation, and combatting climate change. Business leaders will see how major industry players are achieving carbon neutrality. City planners and officials will hear from colleagues around the world who are galvanizing public support and investment funds for game-changing infrastructural projects. For all who are concerned about climate change and how it will impact their future, this conference will present new ways of thinking about and acting on their climate change goals.
