On Friday, May 10, DIALOG’s Robert Claiborne, partner and architect, and Kyle Auch, associate and architect, will be attending this year’s Rebuild Session in Banff, Alberta, hosted by the Alberta Association of Architects (AAA), to present a session on Glenbow: A Museum Re-imagined.

Glenbow: A Museum Re-imagined

Located at the corner of Stephen Avenue and 1st Street SE in Calgary, Glenbow is an anchor to the public realm of Stephen Avenue and Olympic Plaza and in physical partnership with Arts Commons and the Telus Convention Centre. The museum is at the heart of the cultural precinct of the city.

Robert Claiborne and Kyle Auch brings insight to the revitalization of the museum. The redesign of Glenbow has provoked questions about the importance of a building exterior in communicating the purpose and intent of the building. Should a building communicate its purpose? In an age of expanding social awareness, how does a museum give full account of itself? The presentation explores the building’s unique, new façade design and how it establishes a conversation with the city and becomes an active participant in the public realm.

About the Alberta Association of Architects (AAA) Banff Session

Taking place May 10-11, 2024, the Banff Session will address the significance of rebuilding and the myriad ways our registrants and other industry professionals take part in reshaping the world. The session will explore resilience and how we can rebuild our environments in the wake of extreme climate events and natural disasters. It considers reconciliation and how the design professions can rebuild relationships and work towards diversity, equity and inclusion.

Every two years the AAA brings together over 400 architects, interior designers, academics, and students to the stunning Rocky Mountains of Alberta to network, learn and advance the professions. Since 1956, the AAA has proudly hosted this popular conference, aptly named Banff Session.
