On November 29, the Glenbow Museum project achieved an exciting milestone as the first external panel of the new building was cast.
Hosted by Heavy, the event welcomed members from Glenbow, the Shaw Family Foundation, Tourism Calgary, M3DM, EllisDon, and DIALOG to witness the first exterior Cloudcrete™ panel come to life. DIALOG’s Robert Claiborne, Partner and architect; Matt Stewart, Associate and architect; Kyle Auch, architect; and Vita Leung, marketing and business development leader, were in attendance.
The museum’s new skin is designed to have a three-dimensional quality along with a lightness that becomes free from the formal confines of its original box-like structure and allows for multiple interpretations.
The perforated surface displays different qualities throughout the day. From sunlight and shadows moving across the surface and revealing reflections of the sky and of the neighbouring context, to a surface of light and shadows that gives way to illuminate galleries and lobbies within.
Congratulations to the entire project team on this exciting milestone.
