Join Joost Bakker alongside the original visionaries of the plan for a leisurely walking tour of one of Metro Vancouver’s most iconic mixed-use waterfront developments to learn how this former industrial area emerged as a vibrant community anchor with an award-winning public realm.

Originating as a carnival-style marketplace which opened for Expo ‘86 Vancouver, The Quay has developed into a diverse, multi-use community anchor in the Lower Lonsdale area. A unique public-private partnership between the City of Vancouver and Quay North Urban Development revitalized the historic waterfront industrial area into what is now affectionately known as “The Shipyards.” With the grand opening in July 2019, the Shipyards quickly became a popular community destination for locals and visitors hosting concerts, plays, farmers markets, buskers and general festivals throughout the summer season. The development boasts incredible public amenities including a water park and skating rink that complement the commercial tenants, including cafes, restaurants, retail and a beautiful, modern-industrial venue.

2023 Cascadia Regional Conference

The Cascadia Regional Conference offers two full days of learning and insights into the issues, opportunities, and challenges that impact the development industry, with a uniquely-Pacific Northwest focus on adaptive reuse and land partnerships. The event features keynote speakers, engaging panel discussions, networking opportunities, and exclusive tours of notable Metro Vancouver projects, such as the “The Stack” AAA-class downtown office tower, Cypress Village masterplan, and the Lower Lonsdale Quay Market & The Shipyards.
