MacKimmie Complex Takes Home Two CCE Awards

November 3, 2021

The MacKimmie Complex Redevelopment project in Calgary, Alberta has been recognized with an Award of Excellence in the Buildings Category and a Tree for Life Award at the 2021 Canadian Consulting Engineering (CCE) Awards.

Hosted virtually by the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies (ACEC) and Canadian Consulting Engineer magazine, the Awards program represents the highest honours for excellence in consulting engineering in Canada.

Awards of Excellence are presented to Canadian firms whose projects connect communities and illustrate the most remarkable engineering feats, while special achievement awards like the Tree for Life Award are given out to firms whose projects demonstrate outstanding environmental stewardship.

Our multidisciplinary team is proud to have come together on the MacKimmie Complex to provide architecture, landscape architecture, mechanical engineering and interior design services alongside our partners Entuitive, SMP Engineering, Transsolar Energietechnik, and Urban Systems.

Designed to be a high-performance net-zero carbon building, the MacKimmie Complex at the University of Calgary comprises a fully renovated tower and block and a new link that connects the two buildings by an atrium, surrounded by a redesigned outdoor gathering space.

The project – designed with high performance features and 85 per cent more energy efficient than its previous structure – is recognized by the Canadian Green Build Council with a provincial and national Green Building Excellence Zero Carbon Award and strengthens the sense of place and community in the heart of the University of Calgary’s main campus.
