Microgrids: More Than Powering Buses
Transit systems across the world share the ambition to be more sustainable and resilient. In response, electrification has become a buzzword. Yet electrification by itself isn’t necessarily more sustainable and resilient than power from fossil fuels. Microgrids to fuel buses can make a huge difference. Harnessing renewable energies such as solar, wind or hydro, microgrids reduce GHG emissions, provide an independent power source for transit agencies, allow communities to participate in utilizing the energy and, in many instances, reduce lifecycle costs for the operator. A panel of industry experts will explore microgrids – how they work, the opportunities they present, and the challenges they face.
Meet the Panelists:
- Moderator: Georg Josi, PhD, P.Eng., Partner, DIALOG, Edmonton, AB
- Chrissy Mancini Nichols, National Director of Curb Management and New Mobility, Walker Consultants, San Francisco, CA
- Tim Victor, eMobility Project Lead, Scale Microgrids, Los Angeles, CA
- Michael Yambrach, Chief, Office of Energy and Sustainability, Department of Transportation, Montgomery County, Maryland
