About the Thermal Comfort Study

Thermal comfort is the state of feeling neither too warm nor too cold in a given environment. In 2023, the Urban Design Division at the City of Toronto, in collaboration with a consultant team led by DIALOG and Buro Happold, completed a Thermal Comfort Study. The study aimed to provide guidance on enhancing thermal comfort in public spaces by integrating considerations into City guidelines, standards, and policies.

Vancouver has been proactively addressing climate change for over a decade. In 2012, it launched Canada’s first Climate Change Adaptation Strategy (CCAS), which is now in its third iteration. The CCAS focuses on reducing the city’s vulnerability to climate impacts while safeguarding people, ecosystems, infrastructure, and essential services from unavoidable changes. Recognizing that climate change does not affect all communities equally, the City is implementing an Equity Framework to ensure its ambitious carbon reduction policies are both inclusive and fair.
