DIALOG’s Thomas Wu, Partner and structural engineer, and Jim Montgomery, Partner Emeritus and structural engineer, will attend the Woodrise International Congress to present their research titled, “Zero Carbon Hybrid Timber Supertall Prototype in Canada”, on Wednesday, October 18, in Bordeaux, France.

Joined by international industry professionals in a workshop setting under the topic of “Securing innovation in wood construction projects”, Thomas Wu and Jim Montgomery will be speaking about the advancements of their research on the patent-pending, prefabricated Hybrid Timber Floor System (HTFS), which offers an unprecedented 40’ clear span with improved fire safety, and could potentially impact mass usage of wood in buildings of any size and height.

The HTFS is a significant feature in the 105-storey Zero Carbon Hybrid Timber Supertall prototype, a vertical neighbourhood with stacked residential, hotel, hydroponic farming, recreational, and commercial spaces, and achieves net-zero carbon.

About Woodrise Congress 2023

From October 17 to 20, 2023, the city of Bordeaux, France, will host the fourth edition of the biannual Woodrise Congress on mid- and high-rise timber construction and buildings. The international forum will bring together more than 3,000 participants from 20 different countries, some 50 keynote speakers and more than 100 exhibitors, to present the various global challenges of mid- and high-rise timber construction and its integration into the concept of sustainable cities. Attendees will hear from internationally renowned speakers and presenters, and will have the opportunity to join tours on forest resources, industry, and wood construction.
