Sun Peaks Centre

A mountain hub for community and sports

Sports & Recreation

Sun Peaks Centre is a versatile, covered arena and community hub located in the Mountain Resort Municipality of Sun Peaks, west of Kamloops. This project was designed to provide a new, intimate convention centre, sports facility, and all-season arena for the resort community. Positioned at the resort’s entrance, it serves as a prominent visual landmark and the most significant public building in the area. The facility boasts a fitness and weight room, multi-purpose rooms, universal change and locker rooms, a dedicated childcare space, as well as a fully prefabricated enclosure around an existing rink.

The new roof structure provides weather and associated snow loading and shedding protection to the existing 200’ x 85’ outdoor ice arena.

The roof is a glulam structure comprised of a large-span mono slope roof emulating the alpine style in the surrounding community, while also considering snow loads and run-off management.

The project was expedited by dividing it into four building permit packages, enabling its completion within a swift twenty-month timeframe.
