What’s an emerging design technology or trend that has you excited?
Modular construction! Incorporating designs that allow larger components to be constructed in a controlled shop fabrication environment and brought out as a larger piece for installation can have numerous positive factors, including reducing waste, better quality control, reduced schedules, and improved construction safety.
How do you hope your work positively impacts our communities and environment?
Architecture and the built environment profoundly impact the day-to-day lives of a community. I attended a farmer’s market where residents could obtain their new library cards for their near-completed library in the park that I helped design – the buzz, excitement, and pride those folks had about this library truly reminded me of why I love being a structural engineer.
What do you do to get out of a creative rut?
Spending some time outdoors. Whether it’s a quick one-mile run through the neighbourhood, an intense hike, or a bike ride through the mountains, I always feel like it resets my perspective for the better.
What’s your happy place?
A beach, any beach will do!
