Moda Samsam Associate, Architect M.Arch. | OAA | MRAIC Toronto

With nearly 15 years of working experience as a planner and design architect in project delivery for high-profile projects, Moda has primarily focused on healthcare and justice sectors. She has been a senior clinical planning lead on several large hospital projects, requiring a strong understanding of complex hospital operations. Moda worked on Trillium Health Partners Mississauga Hospital project, currently the largest healthcare project in North America.

Throughout her career, Moda has been involved in all phases of project design, programming, planning, project delivery, and contract administration. From newly built projects to renovations and additions, she is a mentor and leader to others within the healthcare team and exemplifies a hands-on attitude when undertaking any opportunity. Moda is inspired by her work knowing her skills can help clinicians, nurses, patients and staff have an easier day because of their workspace design.

Moda completed an Honours Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Architecture from the University of Toronto.

If you could work a ‘day-in-the-life’ of another discipline/department at DIALOG, whose would it be?
The sustainability team. Not only is it a hot topic in today’s conversation, but I believe it’ll soon be as powerful as financial incentives for any project.

Where do you find inspiration?
New places where everything is foreign.

How do you hope your work positively impacts our communities and environment?
We heard about fatigue in healthcare workers during the pandemic and as an ongoing issue. I believe a good design that emphasizes thoughtful and thorough space planning that works well with the hospital operation can help alleviate unnecessary stress and promote well-being for staff and patients.

How does your work inform your personal philosophy and vice versa?
I see both life and work as a puzzle. It’s a mess until you discover the fitting pieces.
