Sight and Light Beyond the Patient Room
This session will focus on key challenges, synergies, and opportunities to bring in light and nature, not only into patient rooms, but in waiting areas, courtyards, staff areas, and all spaces of a healthcare facility.
The team will share an integrated, analysis-based approach to achieving daylight in most regularly occupied spaces. They will build a case study for using a combination of tools such as energy modeling, daylight modeling, landscape design, wayfinding, lighting design, medical planning strategy, and operational feedback from hospital administrators.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify strategies to overcome potential barriers to providing daylight and views throughout a healthcare facility.
- Incorporate lessons learned and feedback from hospital administrators that incorporate expansive daylight and views into future design.
- Evaluate the role of façade assemblies and product selection in successful daylighting design.
- Balance potentially competing sustainability goals, including daylight and views, thermal comfort, visual comfort, and energy efficiency.
