DIALOG Wins Seven Awards at the Consulting Engineers of Alberta (CEA) Showcase Awards Gala

April 8, 2025

DIALOG has long been recognized for its exceptional engineering quality, creativity, and innovation—across Alberta and beyond. We’re proud to be celebrated once again for this work.

On April 4, DIALOG took home seven awards at the 28th annual Consulting Engineers of Alberta (CEA) Showcase Awards Gala. The winning projects are the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre, Valley Line Southeast LRT, Gene Zwozdesky Centre at Norwood, and the Bow Valley Gap Wildlife Overpass. In addition to our project wins, DIALOG consultant and past Managing Partner, Jeff DiBattistareceived the CEA Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Distinguished Achievement, recognizing his career-long contributions to consulting engineering.

Every year, the CEA presents awards for Excellence and Merit across 13 categories, highlighting achievements in community development, environmental and building engineering, transportation, and more.

Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre

  • Award of Excellence | Building Engineering – Institutional
  • Award of Merit | Sustainable Design

Calgary’s Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre, designed by DIALOG in collaboration with Stantec and Smith + Andersen, is Canada’s largest, and North America’s second largest, cancer treatment and research facility. The facility integrates treatment, education, and research, showcasing advancements in healthcare engineering and public infrastructure.

The Centre has more than 100 patient examination rooms, 160 inpatient beds, more than 100 chemotherapy chairs, 12 radiation therapy vaults, and increased space for clinical trials. The facility has also achieved LEED Gold Certification, demonstrating a high-performing, sustainably designed, and comfortable building to promote healthcare and wellness.

Valley Line Southeast LRT

  • Award of Excellence | Project Management
  • Award of Merit | Transportation Infrastructure – Roads, Interchanges, Airports, Mass Transit

A catalyst for city-shaping and the development of transit-oriented communities, the Valley Line LRT is a 13.1-kilometre floor light rail transit system, stretching from Edmonton’s southeast all the way to the west end through downtown. The Valley Line LRT isn’t just reshaping the transit experience for Edmonton — it’s also raising the bar for sustainable transit systems in Canada as the City of Edmonton’s largest infrastructure project. Looking to global leaders in light rail networks, the design team iterated and innovated for an elevated design unique to Edmonton’s neighbourhoods and communities.

Gene Zwozdesky Centre at Norwood

  • Award of Merit | Building Engineering – Institutional

Gene Zwozdesky Centre at Norwood, designed by DIALOG in collaboration with SMP Engineering, is a new home for those in need of complex continuing care—a continuum of services for those with chronic disease or disability—for young or old, minimal to full care. Located near the Royal Alexandra and Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospitals in Edmonton, it fosters a cohesive community for residents, staff, and visitors.

The facility features advanced structural systems with two-way slabs, innovative mechanical systems with water-cooled chillers and steam heating, and comprehensive electrical systems with emergency power. Sustainability moves feature networked electrical metering and future-ready photovoltaic infrastructure, all in service of providing state-of-the-art care in Edmonton.

Bow Valley Gap Wildlife Overpass

  • Award of Merit | Transportation Infrastructure – Transportation Structures

Simple and straightforward in its design and engineering, the Bow Valley Gap Wildlife Overpass serves to reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions and connect wildlife migration routes and patterns that cross the Trans-Canada Highway. Design considerations sought to balance technical complexity, driver safety and experience, and the ecological needs of the wildlife populations it connects.

The location was chosen because of traditional migration patterns, and the design was created to fit with the natural landscape and local environment in a respectful and careful way.
