Community Recreation Buildings + Biophilic Design Were Made for Each Other
Biophilic design is an approach to the design of the built environment that seeks to connect occupants and users more closely to nature. When recreation client Vivo for Healthier Generations asked DIALOG to blur the lines between indoors and outdoors and to design an innovative Indoor Park to feel like an outdoor setting, the stage was set for integrating biophilia into every corner of the building and site. The design team used a variety of biophilic principles to achieve this synthesis and create an experience that engages all the senses and delights the heart and mind.
Learn how the design team used the client’s program drivers to fashion a recreational centre that introduces biomorphic forms and patterns, natural colours and materials, and complexity and order to satisfy the deep biological affinity each of us has for life and natural systems. Biophilic design contributes to wellbeing, a central tenet of the client’s mandate and one which most organizations would ascribe to.
