Future design technologists spend a day at DIALOG

May 14, 2020

Field trip day! 140 NAIT students from five design technology programs spent the day in our Edmonton studio.

DIALOG’s relationship with Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) spans decades, and we’re proud to have many NAIT grads on our team. We have supported awards and job shadowing for NAIT’s design technology programs including Architectural Technology, Interior Design Technology, Landscape Architectural Technology, Building Environmental Systems Technology, and Civil Engineering Technology.

This year, we wanted to show as many NAIT students how an integrated design practice works together, so we opened our studio for an interdisciplinary field trip (before we all started working from home, of course).

The students were toured around our studio and given a presentation about DIALOG. Then, smaller groups had the chance to go on a Downtown walking tour and hear first-hand from designers that worked on projects in the area.

Al Al-Sammarraie, a mechanical engineering technologist at DIALOG and NAIT Building Environment Systems Technology grad, was proud to take part in the day and had this to share:

Being a graduate from NAIT, it makes me happy that I can give back to my school through DIALOG. Seeing students and my old instructors come to the office and learn about what we do day-to-day brings joy and motivation, to inspire the next generation of engineers, architects and designers.

—Al Al-Sammarraie, DIALOG Mechanical Engineering Technologist

Thanks to NAIT for summarizing the day in the video above. We’re looking forward to another chance to host students like this next year.
