The facility design was inspired by the 30-acre site which is part of the Hidden Valley Area Structure Plan located in the western side of the City of Grande Prairie.

The design is unique in how it respects site opportunities, including Bear Creek and the Muskoseepi Trail while providing abundant natural light in patient rooms and access to courtyards and gardens.

The “Y-wing” Inpatient Units curve along the east boundary of the site allowing patients a view to Bear Creek as it flows alongside the hospital.

The second floor is devoted to classrooms and teaching labs. This block has a direct connection to the parkade to optimize the flow of students, staff and public throughout the facility.

The design includes an elevated pedway to the adjacent Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Parkade, also designed by DIALOG.

In-Patient Units fan out in three Y shaped wings. The unique shape was adopted to maximize patient views from the bedrooms to Bear Creek or the Internal Courtyards.

The facility design consists of a three-floor acute care centre plus one level below grade and a mechanical and electrical penthouse on the roof.

The Team

The design is beautiful and the functionality of the rooms is so well considered.
