Shea Gonzalez Associate, Electrical Engineering Technologist CET | LEED® AP BD+C Calgary

Shea has worked on an array of retail, restaurant, library, and hospitality projects and is experienced in all aspects of electrical design including lighting, fire alarm, power, and communications. She has a passion for lighting and is an active member of the Illumination Engineering Society (IES). She is sought after within DIALOG for her expertise on new and innovative lighting technology, science, and design. She is continually refining her skills in real-time rendering software to better help designers and clients achieve their lighting design goals for a project.

Shea is a LEED AP BD+C and has worked on various LEED projects. Shea also leads DIALOG projects as the designated electrical project manager on projects like Calgary Veterinary Medicine Addition & Renovation, VGH AP Laboratories, Lethbridge Exhibition, and the recently opened VIVO Community Recreation Complex, where she modelled all the feature lighting. Shea is a graduate from the SAIT Electrical Engineering Technologist program and is a current member of The Association of Science & Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET).

What’s your favorite DIALOG project?
VIVO Health and Recreation, this project had the most unique lighting design concepts I’ve ever done including circadian lighting within an indoor park and colour changing lightning that brings an indoor pool to life.

If you could work a ‘day-in-the-life’ of another discipline/department at DIALOG, whose would it be?
Architecture, I would love to understand and be part of how a building’s design comes to life.

Where do you find inspiration?
Being a member of the Illumination Engineering Society there are endless resources on new and innovative lighting design projects from around the world and I use these to help inform my design process.

What’s an emerging design technology or trend that has you excited?
Photorealistic real-time rendering. This technology is advancing toward rendering images that accurately simulate light’s behavior, allowing us to accurately model a lighting design concept before its installation.
