Jay Levine Partner, Architect OAA | AIBC | AAA | NLAA | NSAA | MRAIC Toronto

Over the past three decades, as a Founding Principal of NXL Architects, Jay built a reputation as a leader in the programming, planning, design, and execution of specialized pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and life sciences research facilities. He joined our firm in 2021 when NXL merged with DIALOG to create a national Science + Technology practice.

Driven to do work that matters, Jay builds on his deep knowledge of scientific processes and operational workflows. By integrating architecture and engineering, Jay creates high-performance workplaces that facilitate team collaboration, support advanced research, and accelerate breakthrough discovery. He prides himself on his ability to make connections and solve puzzles, and to intuitively connect specialized spaces in a way that optimizes the flow of people and materials. His ability to deftly insert new process equipment and mechanical and electrical systems into existing building fabric has been key to the success of major renovation and expansion projects.

His collaborative leadership style merges design principles from academia and industry to advance the functionality of complex facilities and guide teams towards solutions that result in safe, effective, and dynamic workplaces. Engaging closely with clients, Jay seeks to create adaptive facilities that will function far into the future as the science changes, by ensuring that all technical elements are elegantly integrated into a complete, high-functioning ecosystem designed for growth.

As a specialist and authority in complex controlled-environment designs, Jay has spoken at conferences and seminars for the Toronto Biotechnology Initiative, the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers, and the Toronto Research Symposium as well as Sustainable Labs Canada and, most recently, Tradeline Research Facilities.
